You’ve probably heard about carbon credits as a way to increase revenue as a farmer. They’ve been around for almost 30 years, but only in the last few years have they become more talked about in agriculture.
A carbon credit is equal to 1 tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). Taking action to reduce emissions or remove CO2e from the atmosphere generates these credits, and they can be sold to buyers who want to offset their emissions.
Farms have multiple ways to generate these credits by adapting existing practices and implementing new ones, all whilst maintaining yields.
A carbon credit project is designed to reduce the creation of greenhouse gas emissions (carbon reduction) or to increase carbon storage (carbon removals). Farmers can generate carbon credits by adopting specific farming practices that either store more carbon in the soil and plants (like planting cover crops or reducing tillage) or by reducing emissions (such as through efficient use of fertilisers).
BX offers 2 types of carbon credit projects: soil and biochar creation.
Baseline your existing practices
Provide evidence of your current waste management practices.
You can earn up to $500 per acre from biochar credits. This is in addition to the benefits biochar provides to your soil, like improved fertility and water retention.
Yes, but some soil practices may not be compatible with biochar projects. Contact us at farmer@bx.tech to find out what is best for you.
We collect emissions data once a year and verify soil carbon levels at least once every five years through soil sampling.
BX sells your carbon credits to companies and organisations that need to balance out their carbon emissions. These buyers include:
The demand for these high-quality agricultural carbon credits is growing as more companies work to meet their environmental goals.
BX is the only company offering carbon credits for tree fruit and hops farms. By generating credits with BX, farmers can improve their BX Score, which not only boosts their revenue from carbon credits but also increases their crop pricing power and helps predict yield improvements.
